Happy New Year! I hope you all are having a wonderful new year. I hope that this year we can get to know each other better and we can make it a point to get to know all of the sisters we visit teach and let them know that we are here for them.
I found a story in the Ensign that talked about a sister who had been visiting a young woman for about a year. She went to the young woman's house monthly and gave her a lesson and felt like she was doing all she was supposed to do as a visiting teacher. Then tragedy happened. The young woman's brother committed suicide and she became depressed and did not want to come out of her house. This sister wanted to do something for this young woman, but she did not know what to do. One evening they went to visit the sister and she just cried. They just held her and let her cry. They realized that they did not need to say anything they just needed to be there to show her their love. That night the sister learned that regardless of personal circumstances, we all need to know that we are loved and that someone cares.
Visiting teaching is never just a lesson or a phone call. It is concerned, deep interest in the lives of others. It is about giving what the other person needs, not necessarily what we want to give. More than anything else, visiting teaching is a way for us to help each other feel the Savior's love in our lives.
I hope that we can all help each other feel the Savior's love in our lives.
